Starting a Sock Brand — Low MOQ, Full Guidance

The lowest-risk route from an idea to a first sellable run: 500 pairs, help building the tech pack, and honest advice about what your budget can realistically buy.

The problems this channel actually has

Be blunt about which of these you recognise — it tells us more about your requirement than a specification does.

You do not know what you do not know

Yarn counts, machine gauges, size grades, care labelling, barcode requirements — the volume of technical detail is genuinely large, and most of it is unfamiliar.

The MOQ wall

Most sourcing routes want 5,000 pairs before they will talk to you. That is a five-figure inventory commitment before you know whether the product sells.

Cash flow is the real constraint

Money spent on inventory is money not available for advertising or photography — which is often the difference between a launch that works and one that does not.

A cheap sample is a false economy

Getting samples from three suppliers to compare price is sensible. Choosing the cheapest one when the sample is visibly worse is not.

How it runs, step by step

A typical first engagement for this channel — the shape is the same for a 500-pair trial and a programme order.

01

Send what you have

A logo file, a photo of a sock you like, and a target price. That is a complete brief.

02

Get a construction proposal

We propose a yarn, a gauge and a construction against your price point — with the trade-offs explained.

03

Free digital mock-up

Your logo and colourway on the proposed construction, within 48 hours.

04

Physical sample

7–10 days, with a specification sheet. Revised free until you approve it.

05

Order 500 pairs

The minimum is 500 per design. Sample fee refunded against the order.

06

Test the market, then scale

Sell the first run, then reorder against the locked specification at a better tier.

What we will not do

Quote a price we cannot hold

If the target price you have set requires a yarn or a construction that will not deliver the quality your market expects, we will say so and propose the nearest achievable version — rather than quoting low and substituting later.

Pretend a warehouse is a factory

SOXMILL is a sourcing company, not a mill owner. We run the specification, the QC chain and the documentation, and we are upfront about that. What we do not do is imply we own machinery we do not.

Take an order we cannot make the date on

If your deadline is not achievable we would rather lose the order than accept it and fail it. Dates are quoted as ranges with buffer built in.

Sell your custom design to anyone else

Your artwork, patterns and specifications are used only to produce your order. We do not offer custom developments to other buyers.

Startups & New Brands — common questions

What is the smallest order I can place?

500 pairs per design and colourway for knitted styles, or 1,000 pairs for sublimation-printed. Mixed sizes count towards the same design, so one design in a full size run is a valid first order.

What will it actually cost?

Indicative FOB: knitted logo crew US$0.55–1.30 per pair, sublimation printed US$0.60–1.20, socks with terry cushioning US$0.80–1.60. At 500 pairs you are at the entry tier, so expect the upper half of those ranges. Send a target price and we will tell you what construction it buys.

Do I need a tech pack?

No. Roughly 70% of our buyers start without one. Send a reference sock, a photo and a price point and our pattern team builds the tech pack with you at no charge.

How fast are samples and what do they cost?

Pre-production samples ship 7–10 days after tech-pack approval, by express, with a spec sheet. The sample fee is quoted per style and refunded in full once the bulk order is placed. Revisions are free until you approve the sample.

Can you handle a small trial order?

Yes. From 500 pairs per design is designed for first orders and test runs. A typical first order is three to five designs at 500–1,000 pairs each, consolidated into one shipment. Once the style is proven, repeats move into the volume pricing tiers.

What do you need from me to start?

Vector artwork (AI, PDF or EPS) works best, with Pantone codes for exact colour matching. Plus target quantity, delivery market and target price if you have one. A reference photo or a sketch is enough to open the conversation — roughly 70% of our buyers start without a tech pack.

Request a Sample — no obligation.

Send what you have. A reference sock, a quantity and a target market is enough for us to quote.
